The Swiss National Day in Ticino

National Day 1st August in Brissago: This year, national pride is a little less pronounced in Brissago: the mayor has probably decided not to hold a speech to swear the people to Switzerland and its history and the oath of the Swiss Confederates of 1291, so those who absolutely do not want to do without a speech will have to go to Ronco: The national festival with barbecue and music will take place there on Tuesday 1 August at 6 pm in Semitori Square.( weather permitting only). The barbecue will not be missing. So it's probably worth a visit after all!

Party in Brissago: The louder the better.

The Brissaghesi (inhabitants of Brissago) are active people who like to socialize. That is why the year in Brissago is filled with all kinds of festivals. These usually take place down by the lake next to the Town hall (Municipio), where there is plenty of space on the pitch, the football pitch or on the lakeshore. Depending on the festival, there is dancing and music until late into the night. The acoustically loudest "happenings" are certainly the carnival, the Brissago festival in April, the football tournament in July as well as a chaotic "chicken festival", also in July. On these dates it is necessary to celebrate strongly or to organize your own cheerful celebration.

Ticino people are Swiss and not Italians!

Sometime in summer and of course on the Swiss national day, the 1st of August, there will also be a big party with fireworks and everything that goes with it. The national Swiss consciousness is important, the boundary to Italy the core of the Ticino identity. So even if the mayor's address to the national holiday comes alive with fat national pride, and the repeated singing of the anthem of the free Swiss causes nausea even among the natives who love their country, the sausages served afterwards and the polenta taste all the better to Swiss and non-Swiss guests alike.
