Brissago is situated on the right bank of Lake Maggiore and close to the Italian border. Known also for its legendary cigars, Brissago exudes a Mediterranean charm. The sunny village on the northernmost knee of Lake Maggiore borders on Piedmont and has Lombardy as its opposite. At 196 metres above sea level, Brissago is the lowest altitude municipality in Switzerland. The village centre is inclined towards the lake, individual hamlets are terraced up to 400 metres above sea level and offer a breathtaking view over Lake Maggiore.
Casa Caterina and Casa Fiore, which you can rent, are situated right above these historic roofs with a large lake view and in the middle of a panoramic garden.
The historic village of Brissago Porta
Lake Maggiore (in German Langensee) is the second largest lake in Italy after Lake Garda with an area of 212 km². The clear water is inviting for a swim from June to October, with temperatures up to 26 C degrees.
Lake Maggiore is considered the warmest place in Switzerland. The annual average is about 4°C above the Swiss midlands. This is why many southern plants thrive here. In the Magadino plain even rice is planted.
Brissago is best known for the Brissago Islands with their botanical garden. About 1500 plant species can be admired there. The garden was created in 1885 by Baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger and can be visited by boat or cruise ship.
The Catholic church of Santi Pietro e Paolo was built in the 16th century in the Lombard Renaissance style. The Madonna di Ponte church was built at about the same time. The pilgrimage church in the Sacra Monte valley, built picturesquely on a gigantic rock, is also worth a visit.
Beside many regular guests we welcome young families and couples with happy dogs. We are very grateful for the joy our guests express. They are always a motivation for us to take good care of the house and the garden.
